Celadon Ceramic Jar with marine growth

These celadon jars are from the kilns of Si Satchanalai in the Kingdom of Sukhothai. Antique ceramics from this region are commonly referred to as Sawankhalok wares and the term covers the production of many hundreds of kilns in central Thailand.

Unfortuantely we do not have information on which shipwreck these were recovered from but this pottery was popular in the 15th and early 16th century period. 

These are beautifully shaped vessels with two lug handles. The light green celadon glaze has eroded to a large extent as a result of exposure to the sea environment and there is also evidence of marine growth or ‘sea decoration’ as seen in the photos provided.
